UN: 950,000 displaced in Gaza face flood risk as shelter aid falls short
UN OCHA reports about 950,000 displaced people in Gaza live in flood-risk sites, while shelter aid covers only 18% of families needing rainy-season help.

The story in focus
A UN OCHA situation report says about 950,000 displaced people in Gaza live in sites at medium to high flood risk, including over 400,000 at high risk. Available shelter supplies could partially assist only 18 per cent of 294,250 families needing rainy-season help, as cooked-meal production fell 12 per cent.

Flood exposure and shelter gaps
The report covers 29 September to 12 October 2026 and says about 950,000 displaced people in Gaza have been assessed as living in sites at medium to high risk of flooding. More than 400,000 are at high risk.
Available supplies could partially assist only 18 per cent of the 294,250 families requiring shelter assistance for the rainy season. Shortages of materials, machinery and funding, along with Israeli restrictions on access to suitable land, continue to constrain mitigation and relocation efforts, according to the report.
Services under strain
Daily cooked-meal production has declined by 12 per cent to approximately 614,000 amid funding constraints. Shortages of fuel, engine oil, spare parts and medicines threaten the continuity of health and water, sanitation and hygiene services.
Between 29 September and 12 October, 937 trucks carrying humanitarian supplies were manifested and 807 offloaded across five corridors. More intensive inspections and scanning procedures contributed to slower cargo movements from Egypt, the report says.
West Bank violence and demolitions
In the West Bank, five Palestinians were killed and over 240 injured by Israeli forces or settlers over the past two weeks, with 74 per cent of injuries occurring in the context of settler attacks, the report says.
Over 160 olive harvest-related settler attacks resulted in casualties, property damage or both over the past two weeks; some 200 such attacks were documented since September. Demolitions displaced 96 Palestinians over two weeks, including 69 in At Tur, described as the largest displacement in a single demolition incident in East Jerusalem since UN records began in 2009.
